Project Introduction
Reverse engineering in the process of taking something apart to learn how it works. Dale and I came up with possible enhancements by working separately and brainstorming different ideas that we each thought would make the automoblox truck better.
Summarize
Visual analysis is the first stage and is done by analyzing the product's elements and principles or just how it looks overall. Functional analysis is the next stage and this is where the use of the different parts of the object are analyzed. The "black box" model is used in this stage; a known input is given, which leads to a "black box", the unknown, and out of that comes the known output. Finally, structural analysis is performed; the object is taken apart, measured, and evaluated for structural flaws.
Define the Problem
Group Norms:
- Use time wisely
- Work together
- Don't criticize
- Communicate
- Compromise, agree to disagree
- Check each others work

Generate Concepts
Brainstorming: lift kit, trailer, trailer hitch, smoke stacks, seats in the bed, mirrors, extra wheel
1-5; 5 being the best
Develop the Solution
Construct and Test the Prototype
Evaluate the Solution
I showed the final product to my mom and dad. They liked the color with the red of the trailer contrasting the wheels. My dad said that it would look better if the wood of the bed of the truck matched the wood used for the truck itself, and I agree.
Present
Overall, using inventor was pretty easy. The parts that we decided to make were fairly simple and geometrical, so we didn't have any problems there. When we got to the assembly, however, and we worked for a whole day to try to get the hitch to attach to the trailer. We couldn't insert the peg into the hole because the part with the hole was curved and not flat. Next we tried to use planes to attach the parts. This didn't work because every time we tried it, the trailer would end up upside down. I decided to just edit the part that was curved so that I could mate the axis of the peg and the hole and flush the top of the peg to the top of the hole.
Dale and I worked well together, we didn't have any problems. We took turns working on the parts and we each split up the work evenly. We worked efficiently enough in class so that we didn't have to work on the project at home and we were able to finish with a day left to work on 2 things on weebly.
Factors that must be considered when changing or enhancing a design are plausibility and function. Will it be possible to do in the given time or even to do at all and will it function for the wanted purpose of entertaining kids and not breaking. It is important to document the brainstorming process so that you can go back and look at your ideas if you forgot any or so that you can go back and try some of your other ideas later. The purpose of sketching your ideas is similar to that of brainstorming. If you sketch what you are thinking, you can come back to it later and remember. You can use these sketches to build off of and create your ideas on inventor or some other program.
